Here's the counterintuitive part: a better mechanical number can be a warning sign. I've seen ABS grades with an impressive Izod impact number fail in production because the additive package used to hit that number created flow problems in thin wall sections. The weaker grade with a balanced spec sheet ran perfectly. Numbers matter, but you have to know what the numbers mean for your process.

It sounds obvious, but I've had a supplier say 'same as the datasheet' and then ship a lot with a different additive package.

I'll be honest: the full checklist is overkill for everything. If you're buying a truckload of cheap ABS for low-stress, non-visible parts, you probably don't need a trial run. Also, not every problem is preventable. There's one supplier who stays within spec on every lot but still creates occasional processing issues.
